IntraLase® All Laser LASIK - Dallas, Texas Area IntraLASIK

The IntraLase® FS Laser, applies high precision femtosecond laser technology to vision correction. Dr. Tylock now has the opportunity to offer patients a safer, computer-controlled alternative to a microkeratome which uses a surgical blade for creating the corneal flap. With IntraLASIK, surgeons can avoid the complications related to surgical blade problems. The IntraLase® FS Laser precisely delivers the laser energy directly to the outer surface of the cornea, which suffers no trauma. A higher degree of accuracy in both the depth and size of the corneal flap is now possible with Intralase® all laser LASIK at our office serving Dallas, Fort Worth and surrounding ares.

What is the difference between a femtosecond laser and the excimer laser commonly used in vision correction procedures?

The word femtosecond refers to the pulse duration of the laser as it impacts the cornea. The IntraLase® FS Laser uses an extremely short pulse duration (measured in femtoseconds) that enables the laser to apply less energy to the corneal tissue than the excimer laser. The IntraLase® FS Laser can pass through the cornea with absolutely no effect on tissue until it reaches the pre-programmed depth. The IntraLase® FS beam is precisely delivered, via-computer software, to the prescribed intracorneal location. Once the corneal flap is created, the excimer laser uses coolpulses of energy to remove tissue and therefore recontour the cornea.

These femtosecond laser pulses separate the cornea at the exact desired location selected by the surgeon. The result – remarkably safe, precise, and predictable corneal flaps. Because of the incredibly small spot size and femtosecond precision, Dr. Tylock is able to design very precise, customized, computer-controlled incisions at any depth within the cornea without the risk of damaging surrounding tissue.
