Choosing the right LASIK eye surgeon for your LASIK procedure is a very important decision. Despite what many eye centers may tell you, not all LASIK surgeons – or their facilities – are created equal. Not only does surgical experience play a critical role in your LASIK outcome, but also where it is performed, which laser technology is used, and the pre and post-operative patient management process.

LASIK eye surgeon, Gary Tylock, MD built one of the first excimer lasers used in the United States designed specifically for the LASIK procedure. In 1996, he was granted an IDE (Investigational Device Exemption) from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for his "Tylock Excimer Laser System". This laser system was unique at this time because it was able to treat astigmatism and higher degrees of nearsightedness than were previously not approved by the FDA. Dr. Tylock also participated in the FDA research for approval of the VISX® excimer laser. Studies such as these helped to establish LASIK as the procedure of choice for vision correction.
