Dr. Gary TylockRecognized as a leading LASIK surgeon in the country, based in the Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas region, Dr. Gary Tylock has helped refine various laser vision correction procedures that improve the vision of millions of men and women worldwide. Throughout his 25 years of practice – and contributions to the evolution of eye surgery – Dr. Tylock’s primary concern has always been for the safety, well-being and quality care of his patients.

How much experience does Dr. Gary Tylock have in the LASIK field?

As part of his pioneering efforts, Dr. Tylock became a clinical investigator evaluating safety and efficacy as he built one of the country’s first excimer lasers designed specifically for the LASIK procedure. This early involvement with his excimer laser and the FDA played a critical role in helping establish LASIK as the procedure of choice among both doctors and patients.

Today, Dr. Tylock utilizes the Allegretto Wave Eye-Q 400 Hz Excimer Laser system and IntraLASIK – the most advanced and safest form of LASIK treatment – to provide laser vision correction to his patients in the convenience of his on-site laser suite in a facility near Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Tylock was one of the first surgeons in the world to offer IntraLASIK, an all-laser surgical approach using the IntraLase® laser, the most advanced tool available to refractive surgeons. Dr. Tylock is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and served as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, where he has taught surgical techniques to ophthalmologists in training for over 20 years. He is former chief of staff at Pioneer Park Medical Center, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and an active member of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons and the International Society of Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Michael GeorgeMichael George, MD

Dr. George completed his fellowship in medical cornea and refractive surgery at the Wang Vision Institute in Nashville, TN in conjunction with the University of Tennessee.  There, he specialized in full thickness corneal transplants, corneal endothelial transplants, Boston Keratoprosthesis (artificial cornea) surgery, Intacs corneal implants for Keratoconus, as well as numerous refractive (LASIK and PRK) and cataract surgeries.  He took a special interest in advanced technology intraocular lens calculations, and assisted with topography consultations for other laser centers around the country.  He has published papers in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery as well as Review of Ophthalmology.

A native of Louisiana, Dr. George completed his undergraduate degree in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. He attended medical school and obtained a medical doctorate degree in New Orleans Louisiana, training through his clinical years during the days of the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans, LA. He spent an additional year in New Orleans after Medical School to complete an internship in Internal Medicine, specifically to help the citizens of the city that were still trying to rebuild. He then completed a three year residency concentrating on Ophthalmology at the University of Louisville before joining the Wang Vision Institute in Nashville, TN, where he completed an additional year as a corneal fellow before joining the Tylock Eye Center in Irving, Tx.

 

Chris Hopkin, OD

Dr. Hopkin is an optometric glaucoma specialist also fully certified in therapeutics.  Originally raised in Fort Worth, he is happy to be back in the area following his service in the U.S. Army.  In 2003, he was honored to be one of only four selectees nationwide for the Army’s competitive Health Professions Scholarship Program, and was granted a full-ride scholarship to Southern California College of Optometry, graduating in 2007.  During his time there, he was a member of the prestigious Beta Sigma Kappa honor society.

While in the Army, Dr. Hopkin was stationed in Louisiana, where he served as Chief of Optometry Services for Fort Polk’s hospital.  His work there included the training and supervision of several other optometrists and staff.  He coordinated the pre- and post-operative work for the hospital’s corneal refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK) program, co-managing the treatment for well over a thousand soldiers.  He served as an ER on-call physician, seeing many patients after hours for a wide variety of ocular disorders and trauma.  During his time there, he also completed his Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry.

Dr. Hopkin lived in Brazil for two years, where he became fluent in Portuguese.  Since then, he has also learned enough Spanish to be able to communicate with his Spanish-speaking patients, and welcomes the opportunity to brush-up his abilities with both languages!  As an optometrist, he enjoys the personal interaction he has with people, whether through “routine” care or helping patients through more challenging eye problems.  He has benefitted professionally and personally over the years from working with and learning from skilled and dedicated ophthalmologists and optometrists and is pleased to now be a part of the caring and experienced group at Tylock Eye Care.
