Dr. Hopkin is an optometric glaucoma specialist also fully certified in therapeutics. Originally raised in Fort Worth, he is happy to be back in the area following his service in the U.S. Army. In 2003, he was honored to be one of only four selectees nationwide for the Army’s competitive Health Professions Scholarship Program, and was granted a full-ride scholarship to Southern California College of Optometry, graduating in 2007. During his time there, he was a member of the prestigious Beta Sigma Kappa honor society.
While in the Army, Dr. Hopkin was stationed in Louisiana, where he served as Chief of Optometry Services for Fort Polk’s hospital. His work there included the training and supervision of several other optometrists and staff. He coordinated the pre- and post-operative work for the hospital’s corneal refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK) program, co-managing the treatment for well over a thousand soldiers. He served as an ER on-call physician, seeing many patients after hours for a wide variety of ocular disorders and trauma. During his time there, he also completed his Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry.
Dr. Hopkin lived in Brazil for two years, where he became fluent in Portuguese. Since then, he has also learned enough Spanish to be able to communicate with his Spanish-speaking patients, and welcomes the opportunity to brush-up his abilities with both languages! As an optometrist, he enjoys the personal interaction he has with people, whether through “routine” care or helping patients through more challenging eye problems. He has benefitted professionally and personally over the years from working with and learning from skilled and dedicated ophthalmologists and optometrists and is pleased to now be a part of the caring and experienced group at Tylock Eye Care.
