Which procedure is right for your situation?
Choose LASIK if you:
- Have adequate corneal thickness (confirmed at consultation)
- Have a prescription between approximately -1.00 and -8.00
- Want the fastest return to normal activities
- Don’t participate in contact sports or combat roles
- Are aged 18–45 with a stable prescription
Choose EVO ICL if you:

- Have a high prescription beyond -8.00 or +3.00
- Have thin corneas that rule out laser procedures
- Have dry eye concerns
- Want a reversible, removable option
- Want UV protection built into your vision correction
Choose PRK if you:
- Participate in boxing, wrestling, martial arts, or similar contact sports
- Are active military or law enforcement with eye trauma risk
- Have corneas slightly thinner than ideal for LASIK
- Are comfortable with a longer initial recovery period
- Want equivalent long-term outcomes to LASIK with no ‘window opening’
- Have certain occupations that require ‘window opening’-free surgery
Why Dr. Nasser’s expertise across all three procedures matters
Many LASIK-focused practices push patients toward LASIK because it’s the procedure they’re most comfortable with. Dr. Taj Nasser is 1 of only a few EVO ICL surgical trainers in the United States – a designation that requires exceptional proficiency and is recognized by the procedure’s manufacturer. His expertise across LASIK, EVO ICL, and PRK means your recommendation is based on what’s genuinely best for your eyes – not what’s most convenient for the practice. Your free consultation covers all three options with equal depth.
Comparison Questions
What patients ask when comparing options
If I’m told I’m not a LASIK candidate, does that mean I can’t fix my vision?
Absolutely not. “Not a LASIK candidate” simply means that the corneal ‘window opening’-based laser procedure isn’t ideal for your corneal anatomy or prescription. EVO ICL corrects some of the same vision problems without touching the cornea and works for prescriptions that far exceed LASIK’s range. PRK achieves the same corneal reshaping as LASIK without creating the ‘window opening’. The vast majority of patients who inquire about vision correction are candidates for at least one of these three procedures.
What are the outcomes like compared – does one give better vision than the others?
Long-term visual outcomes are comparable across all three procedures for appropriate candidates. LASIK with Contoura Vision and EVO ICL both allow many patients to report seeing better than they did in glasses. PRK achieves the same long-term outcomes as LASIK, with the initial recovery window being the main tradeoff. The right procedure for your corneal anatomy will deliver the best results – which is why candidacy evaluation matters more than procedure preference.
Can I switch from EVO ICL to LASIK later, or vice versa?
EVO ICL is reversible – the implanted lens can be removed or replaced if your prescription changes significantly or if you choose a different solution later. LASIK, being a permanent corneal reshaping, cannot be reversed – though enhancements can be performed if vision changes over time. These decisions are always made collaboratively with Dr. Nasser based on your current eye health.
How will I know which procedure is right for me?
The answer comes from your comprehensive consultation at Tylock Nasser Vision. We measure corneal thickness, topography, pupil size, prescription stability, and other factors that determine candidacy. Dr. Nasser reviews the results personally and discusses which procedure(s) you qualify for, along with his specific recommendation and reasoning. Most patients leave the consultation with a clear, confident answer. The consultation is free and carries no obligation to proceed.
