Shabistan Asrar, O.D.
Dr. Shabistan Asrar is a residency-trained optometrist at Tylock-George Eye Care, where she combines her advanced clinical expertise with a passion for patient-centered care to help individuals achieve their best vision and eye health.
Dr. Asrar began her academic journey at Texas A&M University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and was recognized with the Distinguished Student Award. Her curiosity about the intricate connection between the brain, behavior, and vision inspired her to pursue optometry. She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry, graduating Summa Cum Laude. During her time there, she received multiple honors, including the Public Health Leadership Award, membership in Beta Sigma Kappa, and the Outstanding OPT III Teaching Assistant Award.
Her training included rotations in specialty clinics, where she gained valuable experience in neuro-ophthalmology, dry eye management, and perioperative surgical care. At the Neuro-Ophthalmology Clinic, she worked with complex cases involving conditions such as idiopathic intracranial hypertension and multiple sclerosis. At the Dry Eye Clinic, she performed advanced testing and treatments including IPL, LipiFlow, and BlephEx therapy. She also trained at ambulatory surgery centers, providing pre-surgical counseling and co-management for cataract and refractive surgery patients.
Dr. Asrar further honed her skills through externships at Cedar Springs Eye Clinic and Community Eye Clinic Fort Worth, where she provided comprehensive eye exams, perioperative cataract care, and ocular disease management in both English and Spanish. She has completed an Ocular Disease Residency at Cedar Springs Eye Clinic, where she treated a wide range of conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, corneal disorders, and inherited retinal diseases. In addition, she also is well rehearsed in fitting specialty contact lenses for patients with keratoconus, degenerative myopia, and advanced dry eye, while providing on-call emergency eye care.
At Tylock-George Eye Care, Dr. Asrar specializes in ocular disease management, surgical co-management, and comprehensive eye care. She is committed to ensuring each patient feels understood, cared for, and confident in their treatment plan. Her approach blends the latest advancements in optometry with a deep compassion for the people she serves.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Asrar has contributed to research in regenerative medicine, with publications in leading journals including the Journal of Gerontology and Wound Repair and Regeneration. She is also passionate about mentorship and education, having guided students in both clinical and classroom settings.
Outside of work, Dr. Asrar enjoys baking, painting, and discovering new movies and TV shows. She is fluent in Urdu and Hindi, and conversational in Spanish, which allows her to connect with a diverse group of patients.
