Nick attended the University of Missouri, where he played college baseball for the Missouri Tigers baseball team. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 14th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft. Invited to Spring Training in 2013, he won the Rangers fifth starter position. On April 9, 2013, Nick went 7.1 innings and gave up 4 hits, 3 walks, 1 run, and struck out 5 while getting the win in his major league debut against the Tampa Bay Rays. In the 2014 season, Nick has had his pitching time divided between the Texas Rangers and its AAA league team.
